Vintage film footage of shopping at L.L. Bean in 1936

L.L. Bean has changed a lot over the years. So much so, since 1936, that without the sign hanging over the front door of the famous Freeport building (that changed too, by the way) you’d never know what you were looking at.

The film footage was digitized by an amazing little company called Northeast Historic Film which is a “nonprofit archives dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing northern New England’s moving image heritage.”

If you haven’t been through their marvelous archives, you really ought to give it a go, there are a million gems in there.
